My mother-in-law is currently in the stroke ward and we have nothing but praise for the care she is receiving. All staff very professional and caring. Well done NHS
Excellent service. We are on holiday in Portreath and my husband injured his neck and shoulder a few days ago. He was in acute pain from his neck, which went into his shoulder and left arm. We originally went to Truro A&E as we were advised that this was the nearest A&E. The experience wasn't a favourable one, after a very long wait, very early in the morning, we saw the emergency nurse, who decided my husband's problem was due to muscle spasm and put his arm in a sling and sent him on his way with ibuprofen and co-codamol. We did not get to see a doctor! I questioned the diagnosis and suggested it sounded more like a nerve issue from one of the discs. My husband was in intense pain over the weekend and his fingers had started to go numb. We were told by a local that we should go to the local minor injuries unit at Redruth Community Hospital, as this would be the better option. We went first thing this morning and was met by a very helpful receptionist and triage nurse. We didn't have to wait too long to see the doctor who did a thorough examination and diagnosed a slipped disc in my husband's neck which in turn had trapped a nerve, hence the acute pain. He was given advice as to how to manage the pain and prescribed stronger painkillers and although it was not going to settle for a number of weeks, we both felt more comfortable with the advice and attention received and we will follow up with our local GP when we get home to get referred to a consultant. The staff and hospital are a credit to the local Redruth community here and we now know where to go, if we ever need the service again. Free car parking is also a plus. It cost us a fortune at Truro A&E!
